Outdoor Meetings
Beginning on 11th June 2014 the previous monthly apiary programme is being replaced by a weekly 'drop-in' session. The apiary team will be there from 6.15pm onwards to do the routine weekly checks on hives and whatever other housekeeping is necessary. Depending on how the season unfolds, the colonies will be reflecting the joys and challenges that members own hives are presenting –swarming, superseding, becoming queenless, all the things that colonies do when they haven’t read the bee books. There will be queen rearing, disease inspection, and varroa treatments all according to season. There will also be the everyday general maintenance to be done – mowing, making frames, cleaning and repairing boxes. All this adds up to a huge opportunity to both contribute to the community and get all the benefits of being part of it. Turn up around 6.15pm, on any Wednesday, bring your own suit and a clean hive tool. Disposable gloves will be available, to make cross infections less likely. Members who would like to be a regular part of the apiary team will be particularly welcome.

(There is a separate series of meetings for anyone interested in learning about beekeeping. The 2014 course is now finished. Details for the 2015 course will be will be posted on the Beginners' page later in the year. )
